MAHOGANY SEALER for Caribbean house?

I have a house in the Caribbean,the inside of the overhanging roof is Mahogany planks/ boards,they are External but are undercover,would it best to repaint them with a oil based varnish, as the nail heads are starting to look a bit sick? as apposed to a linseed oil ?
