Do I have this right concerning the true meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday?
Thanksgiving is a holiday began by the Pilgrims (one of the US's first European settlers). They were nearly killed off by sickness and starvation until the Indians visited them and aided them agriculturally to survive. They basically had a joyous party and feast for those couple of weeks or so. There were MANY miraclous occurances from God toward the Pilgrims in their journey and settlement period. They were a very Godly people who escaped religious tyranny in Brittain and intended to evangelize whoever was in the new world (America). They had a thanksgiving toward God that was so deep during that feasting that the tradition of thanking God for his providing our needs (and more) has become a wonderful tradition, and an official holiday. So to celebrate it properly, we turn our focus onto God our provider (not so much focusing on family and food, if one honors the day properly).
